Anaxagoras
ANAXAGORAS
The philosopher who not believe that
the sun and moon were divinities is Anaxagoras. It is all about Anaxagoras life
and what he did as a Pre-Socratic Philosopher and also his work that was
treatise on natural philosophy.
He was a Pre-Socratic natural philosopher and also a scientist. He lived
in Athens for approximately 30 years, but
before all that happened. He was born first in Clazomenae, Iona for around 510
BC and his nationality is a Greek. He was also blessed to have a brilliant mind
and had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He also spent his youth in Lonia,
to learn about new things. But Anaxagoras time has come, he need to leave this
world and he died in Lampsacus.
He was the one of the list of those
philosopher who wrote only one book. His work was treatise on Natural
philosophy. His work was probably not a very long because it could be purchased
for a drachma at most. But the book has not survived. The book as available
until at least the 6th century CE. Because his book was impossible
to recreate the entire content and the order of his work. The views of
Anaxagoras are preserved only in excerpts and summaries. The book was written
in Prose and entitled about nature. After that he was also the first
philosopher to declare the numbers of separate things to be infinite.
My analysis about anaxagoras, Anaxagoras tried to explain the scientific reasons behind
natural occurrences like eclipses, rainbows and meteors. He also have a
description of why eclipses take place. Anaxagoras believed that the sun was a
mass of red-hot metal. He also correctly told that the stars were similar to
the sun but their heat could not be felt on earth due to their enormous
distance from the planet. In my research about Anaxagoras, he also was the
first philosopher to state that the moon reflects the sun’s light and he is the
first individuals gave the correct explanation for the occurrences of eclipses.
In my
conclusion, Anaxagoras innovates, not only in relation to the philosophical
context of his time. He also was the one who provide a quite important
contribution for the solution of the problem for the concept of mind, but that
failed entirely for reasons. Because Anaxagoras did not succeed in giving the
affirmation an adequate foundation and a necessary consistency, because the
method of inquiry of the naturalists, that he followed, did not permit it.
